what it’s all about

I’m Makayla, a Geography and Environmental Sustainability student at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. This fall, I will be interning with the education division of National Geographic in Washington, D.C. This is my account of learning city life in our nation’s capital, watching a dream come true, and being a part of the organization that first sparked my interest in the relationship between people and place.
